Summer Safety TIPS

It's time for summer vacations. We're always ready for hazards on the road and we practice personal safety when we reach our destination.

What do we do to make sure our homes are safe during extended vacations? Here are some tips that we can employ to ensure our home is the way we left it.

1) Strive to make your home look as lived-in as possible while you're away.

2) Don't broadcast your plans but do let your neighbors and local law enforcement know. This can be done by requesting a "residence check" at your district station. This request will be read at roll call during three shifts. (7:00 AM, 3:00 PM and 11:00 PM)

3) Give a spare key to your neighbors and give them an emergency telephone number to reach you.

Current patrol hours -- 5:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

Our security detail is led by Chris Abbott. Chris is a veteran NOPD officer who has provided security detail to our neighborhood since 1999.

All patrol members will be easily identifiable as NOPD. Most days two cars will be running during the most active evening hours. Extra security will be provided during holidays, as appropriate.
